What a home EV charger install actually costs
A typical Level 2 install runs about $1,200–$2,500 when your panel has room and the charger sits near it. A hardwired Tesla Wall Connector, a long wire run across or outside the garage, or a panel that's already full will move the number. The single biggest swing factor is whether your panel needs upgrading first — which is exactly why we built the calculator to ask.
What a panel upgrade costs
A 100A-to-200A upgrade is generally $2,600–$4,500 here. Removing an old fuse box, relocating the meter, or converting overhead service to underground each add to it. A 400A service for a large home is higher. Every line is itemized so you can see where the money goes.
The rebate most homeowners miss
If you're upgrading your panel to add an EV charger and you're an SCE customer, the Charge Ready Home program can cover up to $4,200 of the panel upgrade for income-qualified households (about $2,100 in a designated disadvantaged community). LADWP customers get a $1,000 charger rebate instead. We confirm your eligibility and help you apply.
Permits & timeline
EV charger permits are streamlined under California AB 1236 and often issued the same day. Panel upgrades need a permit plus utility coordination and usually finish in 2–4 weeks. We pull the permits and handle inspection.
